Life Beyond Stories Workshop Series – Where Does Happiness Come From?
It is challenging living through these times of intense chaos and uncertainty. It’s like a volcanic eruption spewing the distorted beliefs within our collective that have been masked and buried. This process of exposing and bringing to light our dysfunctional beliefs will take more time. There will be more potentially frightening, enraging and ugly pieces to be seen, including becoming more aware that the entire system in which we are living is not working. This cleansing is part of the positive changes going on within a much greater movement of awakening.
The pain and severe conflict in our world comes from experiencing ourselves as separate from our real selves, each other and All. Within separation there is a loss of dignity, character, and vitality. We feel alone, powerless, and seek what we think we don’t have. We chase after things and people, and even spiritual awakening. In separation, nothing ever seems quiet right or good enough.
The myth is that we will be happy if or when we have something specific, or we are a certain way. The misperception is that we are not already loved, safe and whole as we are. We mistakenly pursue happiness not understanding that in doing so we actually block it. Whenever we are in pursuit of anything, some part of us has already decided that we don’t already have what we need to be happy.
There is a distinctly palpable difference between the experiences of connection and separation. In being able to feel this difference, we are less likely to be seduced into the constricting pain of separation. We gradually develop a facility for being able to shift in any moment into the rich, open, fluid feeling state of connection.
Both states are within us, but connection has space to hold separation and not vice versa. Connection includes, separation excludes. Connection can be found in each breath in which we are at peace with who we are and with the world as it is in this moment. In accepting all as it is, including the parts we don’t like or agree with, we can be happy and from there have our true preferences. We can receive magnificent gifts of healing and light for ourselves and for the world. Then we can play the beautiful role of being both hospice workers of the old and midwives of the new for ourselves and for the world.
In this workshop we will:
- feel the difference between separation and connection, experiencing going back and forth between the two
- further integrate the state of separation into the state of connection
- receive gifts of light and experience authentic happiness
